Well, the story goes like this. I'm at work and I see this
guy pull up in a good-lookin' 2wd '93 T100.
I notice that he's gone one of those ever-so-cool "prerunner bars"
on the front, but it's obviously
the one for Tacomas and smaller Toyotas. I considered this,
but I could see now that it just didn't seem
fitting. So I sez to him (who is a welder), "That looks pretty
good, you think you could make one of those,
just a little bigger for my T100 sitting outside?" It's not
complicated at all, but you kinda need a welder
to make one, it's not like Legos. So he used his somewhat
as a template, and made it up with bigger tubes
and a little wider and taller. Since I'm having this custom
made, I figure I'll have him take care of a little
problem I have with those bars. Ever notice how it's just
mounted to the bumper? Maybe strong enough
for some, but I want to really smack those shopping carts and send
'em flying, too bad those lights get in the
way now. So we extended two piecesof flat steel about 1/4"
thick to go straight down and curl up under to
bolt into the skidplate mounting location. I just send a bolt
through the skidplate and the bar supports now.
It still flexes a little as the chrome bumper is made to allow a
little give, but the two supports made it a
little more ballsy.
Hey, there's Superman, he's still hanging on.
Here's a shot of the two supports going down below and up to the
skidplate bolts. These were
a real PITA to bend downward after I put on the bodylift.
It just took a huge vise, a BFH,
and some MAPP gas. The vise did most of the work to flatten
out the angle that brings it up,
but the MAPP gas torch somewhat softened it up a little. Hot
stuff.
